Description [edit me!]

Okay, so you know that thing where things become so heralded for being underrated that they become overrated? Yue Kee's has it. While there is no doubting the quality and quantity of the food, there is also no doubt that food takes forever to get to you (even if you call ahead) and the owners are always grouchy. Oh, and did we mention that you can get the same thing a couple blocks away for a dollar cheaper on average? But since everyone from the DP to Wharton professors have called this place great - you can carry on waiting in line. -MY

Compared to other trucks in Penn, Yue Kee should be the best choice. Food with consistent quality, though not fantastic, goes with such a low price. If you want to stick to a Chinese truck, Yue Kee should be your choice! -Ben Franklin

First of all I would like to say fantastic blog! I had a quick qeuitson which I\'d like to ask if you don\'t mind.I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.I\'ve had a hard time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out there. I do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or hints? I love Yuekee Mon, 06 May 2013

I love yuekee. They have great food and it is super cheap and you are always full afterwards. Call ahead if you can or try to hit it if the line isn\'t that long. The Gen Tso\'s and wonton soup are my fav! Plus the Lady is super funny wearing pokemon hats and stuff, can\'t understand what she says hahah -White person

Bottom Line: It\'s cheap and delicious. Also super convenient since it\'s close to Huntsman and the high rises. \n\nThe lady isn\'t that friendly, like people said, but if you call ahead you\'ll be in and out within a minute or two. \n\nGood things to order: Pork belly, soy sauce chicken leg over rice, Beijing hot noodles. I\'ve had the fried fish, the mapo tofu, and some more Chinese-American dishes but wasn\'t too impressed. -Ben Franklin

If you need people to smile at you, Yue Kee\'s not the place to go. But for hot, filling, low-priced food at generous portions, you can\'t beat them! I call ahead to order my usual (chicken and broccoli with white rice) and it\'s always ready when I get there. The food is steaming hot when I pick it up. There\'s no better deal. Other things I\'ve tried are pork fried rice and beef lo mein -- also good. -NS

The best Chinese food truck on campus, bar none. There are many average dishes here, but there are also a lot of quality ones like the Singapore Noodles, the Beijing Hot Noodles, and most of their Specials menu. A little tip if you don\'t like the wait - if you like Pork Belly, Ribs in Black Bean Sauce, or Chicken Leg Rice, those prepared really fast, so you\'ll often get your order before the people in front of you. -Ben Franklin

Dishes are bland, unappealing, and downright gross. The sauces are thick and the vegetables taste old. Worse yet, the owners always seem angry and the wait is excruciating. Kim\'s down the street is a much better meal for 1/5 the wait time. -Ben Franklin

I ordered the chicken and broccoli with white rice. It was amazing; especially if you mix the sauce with the rice. I\'m drooling just thinking about it. I will definitely go again soon! -Kerry

I had General Tso Chicken today and it was great. Freshly-fried tender chicken and awesome sauce. Its sauce might be too salty for someone but I love it. If you could ignoring how long you have to wait, this is a good place to go! -Ammy Philly

A few things done right Wed, 17 Mar 2010

Quality: 4, Convenience: 2, Speed: 2, Friendliness: 3, Bang for the Buck: 4.
I think Yue Kee does a few dishes very well. As far as I can tell, they have the best ma po tofu in the city. They make a few good noodle dishes like the singapore noodle or "beijing hot noodle". But then the things Americans are most likely to know and love are the things done worst or in a very mediocre way at this truck. So at least try the ma po tofu for $3.25. If it doesn't change your life, at least you can say you've been to this well known, very crowded food truck. Service can be extremely slow, so call ahead AND don't come during peak hours. -Neuronix

You can get dishes here that are probably the most authentic Chinese in Philly outside of Chinatown. They're also quite tasty. Sure, the woman has a soup-Nazi attitude but that's why you call ahead ;). -Bendy

Yes: Call ahead. Yes: Add some time onto what she says (usually add 10-15 minutes to whatever she says). It's *not* double the time like someone else said. If she tells you 20 minutes and you go 40 minutes later you will get there substantially after it was ready and end up with soggier rice. Yes: get the orange chicken, the spicy triple delight etc. Yes: food is made to order, very hot/fresh when you pick it up; it's not just sitting in a warming tub for hours like the other asian carts. Yes: Open late, and at strange hours. Get food to order ahead when you get out of a late class or are craving food cart nutrition on a Saturday. No: the cart owners do not perform fellatio on you, but i wouldn't say they are mean, more business-like. No: do not try to get it if you're in a rush, e.g. on your way to class. But really, who wants a huge thing of chinese food on your way to class? -Me

Even though almost all of the food trucks increased their prices by 25 cents as of this year (Yue Kee is no exception), this place is still really good. The reason that they're slow is because they cook it for you in their giant wok. This is why it tastes better than the other Chinese food carts. If you've ever watched them, they scrub the wok clean every time in between dishes. I don't understand the editors' negative review of this food truck. Call ahead if you want to avoid a line. If the lady says 5 minutes, go there after 10. If she says 10 minutes, go there after 20. If she says 15 minutes, go there after 30. And so forth. Just double everything. If she ever says 25 minutes, go there about an hour later. The prices are good, and the amount of food that you get is awesome. My personal favorite is beef chow fun. They might come off as unfriendly, and I can certainly understand why. They've been in that same location for over 20 years now. If you speak mandarin or cantonese, she does seem a bit friendlier. Just watch out for when her son is handing the food out -- he never remembers your fortune cookie. -Ben Franklin

The first time I ordered from Yue Kee, I waited 30 minutes and left never having picked up my food. I went back to try it today and it was actually faster than KoJa. The Eggplant & Tofu I had was typical of most Americanized-Chinese food, so if there is no line I would recommend it. -AG

The food tasted good, no problems there. The problem is the time it takes for the food to be made. I was first in line, and it took 10 minutes to get my food. People that ordered on the phone all got their food before me so maybe I should have done that. The prices are pretty good, too. -Abhi

Low Prices Thu, 31 Jan 2008

Quality: 3, Convenience: 4, Speed: 2, Friendliness: 2, Bang for the Buck: 5.
Moderate quality Chinese food at low prices. The highlight of this truck is definitely its prices. Service is mediocre at best--so don't expect a friendly greeting or a "have a good day". When ordering during peak lunch/dinner hours (noon/6pm), it helps to call ahead of time so your food is ready when you get there. -MS
